This is a selection of the different dome types I produce. Click on any of

My
Salmon Fly mentor, Bob Wyatt, does a lot of domes. His are about 18"
tall, and contain 6 to 8 flies. The flies are usually 6/0 to 8/0 in
size.
I thought I'd start with a 2/0 in a 4" dome. |

A
7" dome works well with two flies.

Here
is a set of three different domes for comparison. The largest is 12".

These
are two 7" domes. |

Another pair of
domes, with the Green Highlander and the McIntyre.
In two different configurations.

This
is a snapshot of a six-fly, 12" dome that was at the Sharon Art Center Show.
Dhoon, Canary, Dusty Miller, Baker, Barksworth, Black Dog
These are on 4/0 Gaelic Supreme hooks. |

Another
7" dome. .
McIntyre on top, Green Highlander on the bottom. Driftwood from Middle
Dam, Maine. Oak base. Some greenery w/ little yellow flowers for accent on
the rear of the driftwood.
See it without the glass here.
I've started turning the bases myself, after
being disappointed with the commercially available.
My good friend George Walthour is the driving force
here. I've since acqured a lathe, and perhaps a new
obsession. |

This is something
I made up for the Sharon Arts Center Member's Exhibition. I used 8
different sized hooks, ranging from 2/0 at the bottom to 8/0 at the top
(Partridge, Adlington & Hutchinson style), showing the progression of
tying steps. It also sort of looked like a nymph coming out of the water,
so I called it "Barkworth Metamorphosis." (That should keep them
guessing...) It's a 12" dome, with an oak base.
There's a shot without the glass here,
and a close-up of the top here.
(I actually thought this looked too roomy inside, so
I wound up putting it into a smaller dome. Pictures
when they come available. ) |
